The story
Pod Różą Restaurant, at ul. Floriańska 14 in Kraków, serves modern cuisine in the glazed former courtyard of the city's oldest hotel. Gault&Millau awarded it 13.5 in 2026, and Michelin lists it as Recommended for the same year.
Mateusz Szul is chef de cuisine. He first worked in this kitchen under Chef Miłosz Grabowski, and his cooking is modern and minimalistic, with a strong focus on ingredient quality. The restaurant makes much of its own production, and its fine dining tasting dinner is the clearest view of what the kitchen can do.
The tasting menus run six or nine courses. Recent listings include sea bass ceviche with candied and fermented citrus, beef tartare with yolk and crispy fried onions, and slow-braised beef short rib with carrot purée and red cabbage. Gault&Millau singles out Iberian presa, served with an umami XO sauce built on mushrooms and a Jerusalem artichoke purée, and a dessert of pear with ricotta.
The main room sits under a glass roof in a Renaissance palace once visited by Tsar Alexander I. A smaller room overlooks Św. Tomasza street through a large window that opens in summer, and it stays fully air-conditioned. The wine list holds more than 300 positions, and the Vinoteka, set in 14th-century cellars, stocks over 7,000 bottles.
