The story
Astrid y Gastón, at Av. Paz Soldán 290 in San Isidro, Lima, is a contemporary Peruvian restaurant that reached No. 14 on The World's 50 Best Restaurants list in 2015. The couple who opened it in 1994 met while studying cooking in Paris, and they came back to Lima with the same plan: a restaurant of their own.
The menu follows Peru through its ingredients and draws on what the team has learned along the way. The restaurant offers an à la carte menu alongside a tasting menu, and it also holds two radishes in the We're Smart Green Guide for 2026. Peru's producers and regional products are the starting point for most of the cooking.
The restaurant sits in a historic house with a garden beside its chapel. The San Isidro room seats up to 10 guests, the historic Salón de los Espejos up to 20, and the Gran Salón Rosado up to 50. The garden holds groups of 25 to 100 people for outdoor events, and the whole house can be reserved for weddings or corporate events for up to 300 guests, subject to availability. The team can also bring the restaurant's service to a client's own venue.
The wine list runs from Burgundy and Piedmont to Tuscany, Rioja and Peru, with sherry, sparkling wine and Champagne served by the glass. A shop on site sells Astrid chocolates and other gifts.
