The story
Het Panbos, at Wassenaarseweg 154 in The Hague, is a Dutch restaurant that earned a Gault&Millau score of 12 in 2026. Chef-owner Joke van Rijn cooks seasonal Dutch dishes in a former tearoom set in a leafy walking area.
Joke van Rijn works as patron-cuisinier, and the kitchen is affiliated with Dutch Cuisine, which commits it to mainly Dutch quality products. She trained for years under Robert Kranenborg, a well-known name in haute cuisine. The menu changes often because it follows the seasons, and the restaurant also holds two radishes from the We're Smart Green Guide for 2026.
The kitchen names its producers openly. Game and poultry come from Pieter van Meel, meat and French cheeses from De Lindenhoff, spices and olive oil from Vanilla Venture, and patisserie from Huize Van Wely. Ingredients are selected with care and bought fresh each day.
The beer list centres on Gulpener Château Neubourg pilsner, a small brewer from South Limburg. Gin-tonics pair Dutch gins with Fever-Tree tonic, and a non-alcoholic Seedlip serve is also available. Afternoon tea follows the English tradition, with scones, clotted cream, and tea from De Eenhoorn, and Cava or Champagne can be added.
