The story
Elea, at Noordeinde 142 in The Hague, serves modern Greek cuisine with Mediterranean touches under chef-owner Takis Panagakis. Gault&Millau awarded the restaurant 14 points in 2026, and the guide's write-up describes his Greek cooking as contemporary, creative and stylised.
Panagakis was born and raised in Greece, and his cooking keeps those roots visible without relying on classics. Reviewers describe dishes built around fresh produce and clean flavours, with Greek ingredients appearing as quiet accents rather than headline dishes. The plates are composed with care, and the porcelain is part of the presentation.
The menu has moved with the seasons, but several dishes recur in past reviews. A yellowtail kingfish arrives with green apple, watercress and tarama. White asparagus is paired with egg yolk, tsitsiravla and black onion, and lamb comes with artichoke, grape shoots and raisin. Reviewers have also praised a vegetarian celeriac Wellington with chanterelles and avgolemono, and a sweet tzatziki of cucumber, dill and Greek yogurt that appears on the chef's menu. Set menus run from five to nine courses, with a vegetarian version and an à la carte list.
The open kitchen sits in view of the dining room, and small olive trees on the console tables nod to the restaurant's name, which is ancient Greek for olive. Bibi Kuyp, the hostess and co-owner, also works as sommelier and steers guests through a wine list that leans heavily on Greek bottles. Wine and alcohol-free pairings are available by the glass for each course.
