The story
Het Sluishuys sits at Arkersluisweg 31 in Nijkerk, serving French-leaning cuisine in a former lock keeper's house beside the small harbor. Gault&Millau awarded the restaurant 12.5 points in 2026, and the house is cooked by owner-chef Erik Hendriksen.
Hendriksen cooks with local seasonal produce and a generous hand with portions. Before moving here he spent twelve years as owner and chef of De Oranjerie in Barneveld. The team says its dishes are made by hand with the best available products and no artificial additives. Michelin lists the restaurant as Recommended for 2026.
The kitchen offers a multi-course chef's menu, with three to six courses, and most of those dishes can also be ordered à la carte. Recent menus have included bluefin tuna with horseradish and pickled spring vegetables, a North Sea catch of the day with beurre blanc and calamansi, and beef tenderloin stroganoff with spring vegetables. Dessert might be a cardamom crémeux with brown chocolate and hung yogurt. A vegetarian menu is also available.
The building dates from 1724 and is a national monument, decorated in green and burgundy tones with Delft blue accents. Tables look out over the Nijkerk polders and the harbor, and there is a summer terrace. Sommelier and host Erik Veld can suggest wines or arrange a pairing for each course.
