The story
Sukade in Meppel is an international kitchen with Asian flavors at Stoombootkade 10, 7941 BS Meppel, and it earned a Gault&Millau score of 13.5 in 2026. The restaurant occupies a warehouse from 1860 on the quay, where southern fruits and spices were once stored.
Chef Thomas van Mechelen blends a fondness for Asian flavors with other international influences, and the menu changes every month. Diners can choose the Smaeckmenu, four to seven courses that pair fish, meat and vegetables, or order from the à la carte card. A vegetarian Smaeckmenu is also offered. Vegan meals require a phone reservation agreed in advance with the chef.
The building still carries its warehouse history in its bones, and the dining room is climate-controlled with marble tables and an open kitchen on the ground floor. Reviewers have praised the acoustics and the relaxed mood. In summer, the terrace faces the water, and lunch is served outside.
