The story
Orangerie De Pol, at Hulleweg 2 in Doetinchem, is a seasonal Dutch fine dining restaurant that Gault&Millau scored 16 points in 2026. Chef Mark Captein and hostess Marjolein van der Ham run the room from a glasshouse on the edge of the Achterhoek woods.
Captein trained in Haarlem and has spent years in fine dining kitchens. The menu changes four times a year, so the seasons decide the courses. He cooks with as many local ingredients as he can, and the kitchen mixes Achterhoek produce with international techniques. Michelin lists the restaurant as Recommended for 2026.
One reviewer singled out a Spaarndam eel dish, a nod to Captein's roots, served with pickled fish, pickled vegetables, ramson oil and a crisp of cabbage. The dessert is built like a painting: a sunflower of farm-milk parfait with dark chocolate ganache, roasted carrot, sunflower seed crunch, citrus, thyme and white chocolate. Earlier menus featured veal prepared three ways, with a kimchi-glazed sweetbread and a tender cheek.
The half-elliptical greenhouse, framed in wood and glass, blurs the line between indoors and garden. Romantic two-top tables sit alongside oval wooden tables for four to six. The open kitchen is compact, and guests can watch the team work from the pass. Dinner-and-stay packages are available on the estate for those who would rather not drive home.
