The story
Hoog Holten is a modern cuisine restaurant in Deventer, at Forthaarsweg 7 in Holten. Gault&Millau awarded it 13 points for 2026, praising its classic yet modern cooking and its welcoming, atmospheric setting.
Chef Tomas runs the kitchen. The restaurant describes its menus as built on fresh ingredients and seasonal flavours. Gault&Millau notes that the wines served with the food are a good match at a fair price for their quality. The summer menu started on 1 June, and a Christmas menu is on offer for 2026.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the restaurant, in the glass conservatory, or on the terrace in the open air. The building was put up in 1920 as a hunting lodge, designed by architects J.A. Jansen and J.G. Wattjes, and was later converted into a hotel. A guest review mentions that dogs are welcome on the terrace.
Dominique van der Valk and Wilco Schuitemaker have owned Hoog Holten since 1 January 2025. The site promotes wine-focused evenings such as High Wine Sunday, and the Michelin Guide lists the restaurant as Recommended for 2026.
