The story
Restaurant Zuyd in Breda serves French cuisine at Pasbaan 7, 4811 GM Breda, and Gault&Millau awarded it 12.5 points in 2026. The restaurant moved to Pasbaan after a lengthy renovation, leaving a location it had occupied for well over fifteen years on the outskirts of the city center.
Chef Stefan Dirkx runs the kitchen with his wife Wendy, who hosts and pours the wine. His French cooking rests on classic technique, but he regularly brings in flavors from further afield, such as Balinese herbs and tapioca crackers. The surprise menu changes regularly.
Lekker500 named the restaurant to its Top 500 list for 2026. Its tasting highlighted Zeeland oysters with a Balinese vinaigrette and shallots, and house-smoked salmon with fennel, pear and dill. The main course was Pluma Ibérico, Iberian pork shoulder served medium-rare with pumpkin, crispy potatoes and a house-made jus.
