The story
De Watermolen, in Arnhem, serves classic cuisine with Mediterranean touches at H. Avelinghstraat 154 in Velp. Gault&Millau gave it a score of 13 for 2026, and Michelin lists it as Recommended for the same year.
The brigade cooks a creative, refined menu and uses regional organic produce wherever it can. The à la carte includes tomato risotto with burrata and basil cream, veal tonnato with fresh tuna, and duck confit with stamppot of turnip greens. A multi-course gastronomic menu, from four to seven courses, can also be ordered with a vegetarian version.
The restaurant occupies a 600-year-old watermill that is still working and is listed as a Rijksmonument. It sits at the foot of the Posbank on the Veluwe, close to the Openluchtmuseum and Burgers Zoo. Diners can eat in the dining room or on the intimate, sheltered terrace, which has a Mediterranean character.
