The story
Café Parlotte is a French and Mediterranean wine café at Westerstraat 182 in Amsterdam's Jordaan, rated 13.5 by Gault&Millau in 2026. Two sommeliers and a chef run it together, and the room fills most evenings.
Margot Los and Marjolein Peltzer, both sommeliers, opened Parlotte in 2020 with chef Maarten Pinxteren. The name means chatting, about everyday things and about life. In Lekker's 2023 review the list ran to nearly four hundred selections, with more than a hundred poured by the glass. Lekker has kept the café in its Top 500 every year from 2022 to 2026.
Maarten Pinxteren cooks a French-inspired menu of three or four courses that rotates. Three courses with dessert cost €52.50, and the dishes can also be ordered one by one. Reviewers have singled out vongole with garlic, chili and coriander, crispy-fried octopus with chorizo, and roasted Baambrugse piglet. A chocolate mousse closed one visit. Oysters, charcuterie and cheese are served alongside.
A narrow entrance with a long bar leads to a slightly wider back room. Small tables, Thonet chairs and white linen set the tone, and the kitchen is open to view. The bar opens for drinks from four in the afternoon, with dinner from five. Mondays often bring chefs and sommeliers from other restaurants. Lekker notes the acoustics are not the room's strength, so expect to raise your voice a little.
