The story
Ristorante HONDA is an Italian restaurant at 2-12-35 Kitaaoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo, about five minutes on foot from Gaienmae Station. The kitchen earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026 and a Gault&Millau score of 15.5 for the same year.
Owner chef Tetsuya Honda builds the menu around domestic ingredients, buying from producers across Japan and choosing each item from the region where it is at its best. Olive oil runs through the cooking, and many guests say the plates taste closer to Japanese cuisine than to what they expect from an Italian kitchen.
Regular diners point to the karasumi pasta, the eggplant carpaccio and the shirako, which is often mentioned alongside the wine. The cellar holds around 200 bottles, led by Italy and extending to Burgundy and Champagne, and staff will source specific bottles if guests ask ahead.
