The story
Noyashichi is a Chinese restaurant at 2-9 Arakicho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, where the kitchen pairs Japanese dashi and kaiseki course order with Chinese oils and spices. The restaurant was listed as Michelin Recommended in 2026 and received a Gault&Millau score of 16 the same year.
The menu follows a set omakase structure, with courses arranged in the sequence of a kaiseki meal. The owners call the style wa-chuka, a blend of Japanese seasoning basics and Chinese cooking. Produce comes from trusted growers and is bought at the market each morning, so the dishes change with the season.
The house specialty is 佛跳湯 (Buddha Jumps Over the Wall soup), and its contents shift by season. Depending on the time of year, the pot may hold shark fin, soft-shell turtle, matsutake, ginkgo or scallop. Guests can also take home the tantanmen noodles or the seasonal XO chili sauce.
The interior is finished in warm wood. Diners at the counter, made from ginkgo wood, can watch the chef work the wok. Two private rooms seat four and eight, and larger groups can book the tables. The wine list holds about 200 bottles, and the sake selection includes Dassai junmai daiginjo and sake from Kochi Prefecture.
