The story
hakunei is a contemporary French restaurant at 4-9-11 Nishiazabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo, awarded one Michelin Star in 2026.
Chef Hayashi (林大) opened hakunei on 1 October 2023 in a residential pocket of Hiroo. His French training meets Japanese ingredients and culture in dishes meant to feel new yet calming. The stated aim is for each ingredient to taste fully of itself, and then a little more. Gault&Millau scored the kitchen 15 in 2026.
The room is a single counter with eight seats, and the menu is omakase only. Guests can pair the courses with an interesting wine list or a non-alcoholic pairing. Because flavor comes first here, the house asks diners not to wear perfume or cologne.
