The story
gentil H is a French restaurant at 2F, 5-18-17 Shirokanedai, Minato-ku, Tokyo, and it holds a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026. Gault&Millau also scored the restaurant 15.5 that year, and the French kitchen is built around careful ingredient pairing.
Chef de cuisine Keisuke Hirano works from classical French technique. Much of the produce comes from Shizuoka, with seasonal ingredients from elsewhere in Japan and abroad added where they suit the dish. Each plate combines several ingredients, each tuned individually, so that the main ingredient ends up brighter than it would be served on its own.
The dinner and lunch menus run from six courses at lunch to a twelve-course set at dinner, with prices listed before a 10% service charge. Wine pairings are chosen dish by dish by the chef and sommelier together, and the list leans toward wines that taste good on their own as well as with the food. Luxury pairings with prestige Champagne and grand cru wines are offered at both lunch and dinner.
