The story
abysse is a contemporary French restaurant at 1-30-12 Ebisunishi, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, and it holds one Michelin star in the 2026 guide. Gault&Millau also scores it 15.5 for 2026.
Chef Kotaro Meguro was born in Yokohama in 1985. He trained in Tokyo, then in Marseille at the three-star Le Petit Nice Passedat, and later in another three-star Tokyo kitchen before opening abysse in 2015. His French kitchen works from Japan's seasons, pairing the sea with the forest. In 2020 he was selected for the World's 50 Best Restaurant Discovery.
There is a single seasonal omakase, built around seafood. It runs to 12 dishes and costs 28,600 yen including tax, with a 10% service charge added. Guests are asked to mention allergies or dislikes in advance, since the menu is fixed.
The plates come from named ceramic and glass artists across Japan, including makers in Shigaraki, Arita, Seto and Tokoname. Interior design is by Esquisse, and the music is by DJ Kawasaki. Meguro describes a place of good sound and comfortable space, where a new flavor is part of an evening with people you love.
