The story
Taian is a Japanese restaurant at 1-21-2 Shimanochi, Chuo-ku, Osaka, and it holds three Michelin stars for 2026, recognised for exceptional cuisine. The 16-seat room has counter seats and a single table, and the Japanese kitchen is built around a seasonal omakase.
The chef chooses the ingredients personally, with a focus on freshness in seafood and depth in vegetables. The courses change monthly, so each visit brings different dishes. Traditional Japanese technique sits alongside fine Western ingredients, with close attention to temperature and cut.
Counter seats and one table are spaced for unhurried conversation, lit softly and kept quiet. Sake, shochu and a curated list of wines accompany the meal, served in Bizen ware and cut glass collected from across Japan. The room is also available for private hire.
