The story
a canto is an Italian restaurant at 3-1-10 Uchikyuhojimachi, Chuo-ku, Osaka, and it holds one Michelin star (2026). The name comes from an old Italian word meaning "beside," and the kitchen aims for the kind of Italian meal guests choose when they simply want good food.
Chef Takashi Murata opened a canto in May 2018 after years cooking in Italy and running kitchens in Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka. He visits the market himself each morning. The seasonal omakase course changes with what arrives that day, and pasta is the centre of it, with every sheet of dough made in-house. Gault&Millau has rated the restaurant 14.5 for 2026.
Seats at the counter look straight into the kitchen, so you can watch the cooking as it happens. The interior is bright and clean, with plenty of warm wood. The wine list is not limited to one region, and bottles and glasses are offered from across Italy.
