The story
Antica Pesa, an Italian restaurant at via Garibaldi 18 in Rome, earned Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence in 2023. The room sits in the Trastevere district, and the Panella family has run it since 1922.
Simone Panella, the executive chef, rebuilds traditional Roman recipes with technique and research. The kitchen treats typical dishes and local ingredients with respect, then pushes them in a more contemporary direction. The Michelin Guide lists the restaurant as a Recommended address for 2026.
The Forest tasting menu costs 65 euros per person and moves through Amatrice crudo with crisp buffalo mozzarella, spaghetti cacio e pepe, veal saltimbocca with raspberry vinegar, and a white chocolate and almond millefeuille with spiced pear. Each menu includes a tree card for planting a tree in the Antica Pesa forest. The cellar holds more than 1,100 labels, and the restaurant offers wine pairing alongside dinner.
