The story
Borkonyha Winekitchen is a modern cuisine restaurant at Sas utca 3 in Budapest, and it holds a Michelin 1 Star (2026) for high quality cooking. The room is close to the Basilica and draws both visitors and local diners.
Head chef Csaba Puskás leads the kitchen and develops the new dishes. The restaurant was built to Hungarian gourmet standards under celebrity chef Ákos Sárközi, and Gault&Millau gave it 16 points in 2026. The seasonal menu puts ingredients first.
Dishes show what that means in practice. A celery dish appears in several forms, from a grilled steak and silky purée to delicate steamed cones. Pastry chef Anett Béres's desserts receive consistent praise, including a chocolate plate with beetroot and lemon verbena that moves between sweet and sour.
Owners Zoltán Kalocsai, a trained sommelier, and Tamás Horváth, who has long experience in hospitality, shape the service. Staff are polished and conversational, and they suggest wine or non-alcoholic pairings through the meal.
The wine list pairs a glass with each dish, and every bottle can be ordered by the glass. Desserts are matched to sweet wines. The à la carte menu means you do not have to commit to the six-course tasting menu. Closely set tables, a chalkboard menu and arched ceilings give the room a Parisian bistro feel.
