The story
Babel, at Piarista Köz 2 in Budapest, is a modern cuisine restaurant that holds one Michelin star (2026). The fine dining room occupies a neobaroque building on Piarista Lane, and the menu draws on regional produce.
Executive chef Kornél Kaszás leads the kitchen, and the cooking stays ingredient-focused with room for international influences. Owner Hubert Hlatky-Schlichter brought in Daniel Berlin, one of Sweden's most celebrated chefs, as a consultant a few years ago. Dishes often play with texture, temperature and contrast. A reinterpreted deviled egg floats in egg foam and is topped with French sturgeon caviar, while the warm-cold foie gras course is silky and rich.
Guests choose between 8- and 13-course tasting menus, with a full vegan option and accommodations for dietary restrictions. The 40-seat space combines wood, fabric and cool concrete with mirrored surfaces and calibrated lighting, and Gault&Millau awarded it 17 points (2026). Crystal glassware and bespoke ceramic plates carry the courses to the table. Head sommelier János Fogarasi-Frank curates the wine and champagne list.
