The story
Herrenhaus is a Mediterranean and fusion restaurant at Herrengasse 17 in Wasserburg am Inn, and Michelin recommended it in 2026. The kitchen builds its small menu around produce from nearby farms and producers.
The menu stays compact and changes often. Owners Maria Schmid-Oehlke and Mike Oehlke buy eggs, meat, flour and vegetables from producers they know personally, and they prefer organic where they can. One weekday lunch example pairs chicken breast from the Kratzelhuber Hof with creamy polenta and carrots with leeks. House-made sage gnocchi comes with broccoli and a white wine foam, and white chocolate mousse with pickled plums ends the meal.
Dinner is a daily changing set menu, and guests decide how many courses to order: three for €57.50, four for €68.50 or five for €80.50. A vegan menu of up to five courses can be prepared on request. Weekday lunch costs €23.50 with a choice of soup or salad, two main courses and bread and butter, or €26.50 with dessert or coffee. Groups of eight to ten can book a private cooking class for €160 per person, including drinks, either late morning or on Tuesday to Thursday evenings.
The house sits in the old town on the inner bend of a river, and guests dine behind historic walls. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 2.5 Kochlöffel for 2026 and notes that up to five courses are served in the evening. Rooms are comfortable and elegant, with a bar, a dining room with a separable side room and a summer terrace. Private events for two to 70 people can be arranged. The wine list focuses on Germany, Austria and Italy, and many bottles are also poured by the glass.
