The story
Untere Apotheke, at Marktplatz 9 in Waiblingen, cooks modern cuisine with a world-kitchen streak and appears in the Michelin Guide as a recommended restaurant for 2026. The address is a 17th-century half-timbered house directly on the market square.
The kitchen follows a farm-to-table approach. Since spring 2024 the team has farmed a garden on the Schmidener Feld together with the garden department of the Berufsbildungswerk Waiblingen, which trains young people with special support needs. Seasonal vegetables and herbs from there go into the dishes. Elements of the starters also return in the main courses, a habit meant to cut food waste.
Guests choose between a three- to five-course menu and à la carte, which earned the house 2.5 Kochlöffel from Schlemmer Atlas in 2026. From Tuesday to Thursday evenings the full à la carte list is open. On Friday and Saturday evenings the kitchen asks for a menu of at least three courses, assembled freely from the card. A set lunch runs on Thursday and Friday from 12:00 to 14:30. Sunday and Monday are closed.
On warm days tables are set on the terrace behind the restaurant and out on the Marktplatz. Inside, a private room suits celebrations and company events for up to 45 guests.
