The story
Bagatelle, at Zurlaubener Ufer 78 in Trier, is a European fine dining restaurant with French and Mediterranean influences and one Michelin star (2026). The kitchen works with a tasting menu of four to seven courses on the Moselle promenade.
Executive Chef Gerald Schöberl came back to the Moselle after years in top kitchens, including the Landhaus Stricker on Sylt and Victor's Fine Dining by Christian Bau, where he worked as sous chef. He builds the menu from fresh regional produce, combining international and creative techniques with his own ideas. The Michelin star recognizes the high quality of that cooking.
Lobster, oysters and sea fish form the core of the kitchen's seafood. One Feinschmecker-described plate pairs sea fish with lemongrass beurre blanc, fennel and crispy scales. U.S. beef also appears on the menu. A past wine-paired dinner offered hamachi, scallop with truffle, skrei and crème brûlée with blood orange.
The dining room is lit warmly and feels cozy rather than formal. From the sheltered terrace, guests look out over the Moselle. The wine list leans on Moselle bottles and adds French and overseas vintages.
