The story
Obere Mühle at Ostrachstraße 40 in Bad Hindelang is a Bavarian and Swabian kitchen set in a former sawmill farmhouse on the Ostrach. It is listed as Recommended in the 2026 Michelin Guide.
Oliver Egger, the kitchen director, cooks regional food with Mediterranean touches. Game comes from the nearby forests, and veal and beef are grilled over an open wood fire. Local dishes run from calf's head to Kässpätzle, and there is fish on the menu too. Florian Fischer, the kitchen's chef for over 15 years, is happiest at that grill.
Ursula Egger-Rohrmoser is the chef patissier, and the house suggests you finish any menu with her dessert. She has welcomed guests here for 32 years. Her daughter Maria and son-in-law Florian Großer now run the Gasthaus as hosts.
The farmhouse was first documented in 1433 and later worked as a sawmill. Today it has a shingle facade and a broad gable roof. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded it two Kochlöffel in 2026 and describes a cozy, entirely wood-clad room from the 17th century with carvings and antiques. Cheese dumplings and goose liver parfait are served there, alongside the calf's head.
