The story
Zur Tanne sits at Alter Weg 4 in Tunau, a village near Schönau im Schwarzwald, where the Badische cooking of a family-run inn earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026 and two Kochlöffel from the Schlemmer Atlas the same year.
Erich and Frauke Ruch have run the house for decades. Their son Claus Ruch came back to Tunau after cooking in restaurants in Switzerland, Austria and Germany. His cooking is known beyond the region, and guests from Switzerland are among its most loyal fans.
The kitchen works with regional produce and moves from hearty pork roast to grilled dishes, fish and vegetarian plates. In autumn, local game joins the menu alongside selected wines. Desserts are made in the house and close the meal.
The house dates back more than 400 years, with a hipped roof and a traditional wooden facade. Guests stay in single and double rooms and start the day with a breakfast buffet. Between meals, you can play tennis on the open court, use the sauna or swim, and walk three trails that together cover more than 50 km.
