The story
Haubentaucher, at Seestraße 30 in Rottach-Egern, is a European bistro directly on the Tegernsee, and it holds one Michelin Star for 2026.
Alois (Lois) Neuschmid makes everything himself, from bread and pasta to cakes, pastries and jam. Der Feinschmecker gave the restaurant 2.5 in 2026 and called the concept no-frills, executed by a true master.
Dinner is a four-course surprise menu, so the choices are the chef's. One version offered zander as a starter split across two courses. The main was flank steak and ox cheek, each shown in two parts, with bean cassoulet beside the steak and potato foam with the cheek. The team likes to finish plates at the table, which often starts a conversation. Wine pairing is available, and the list suits beginners and connoisseurs.
By day the plates change daily, usually a fish or meat dish, plus soups, salads and pasta. From 14:00 the kitchen turns to savory plates built on homemade bread, such as roast beef, fennel salami, or cheese and hummus. Cake and pastry can be taken away, and the coffee is hand-brewed highland coffee.
The bistro is bright, with large windows and simple seating. The terrace extends right into the water, which makes it a fine place in summer, and the lake views last all year. Astrid Weinberger leads the warm, attentive service.
