The story
Landgasthof Schwarzes Lamm serves Franconian cooking at Detwang 21, 91541, in the village of Detwang outside Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded the historic inn 1 Kochlöffel in 2026, and its dining room dates back to 1798. The house sits on the village square in the Tauber Valley.
The main dining room is the inn's Gaststube, which the house describes as an original from 1798. Guests can also book the side room, the Speisesaal, or a further room for closed parties, seminars and private celebrations. In fine weather, tables spread into the beer garden in front of the hotel, under a large linden tree.
The kitchen cooks rustic, seasonal Franconian food, with a separate seasonal card alongside the standing menu. Schnitzel and roast dishes anchor the menu, including Jägerschnitzel with mushrooms and spätzle. Lamb arrives with pepper cream sauce and duchess potatoes, and the Zwiebelrostbraten comes with steak potatoes. Garlic-baked trout and Bavarian-style liver dumpling soup show the range of the Franconian classics.
The inn keeps its own wine cellar, stocked with selected Franconian and regional wines. Those bottles pair with the house's traditional dishes, and a cold drink in the beer garden suits a warm afternoon.
