The story
Fährhaus, at Dorfstraße 42 in Norden, is a German seafood restaurant that earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026 for good quality, good value cooking. The family-run house sits on the East Frisian coast, and its kitchen builds the evening around fish and shellfish from the Wadden Sea.
The menu changes with the market and the season. Much of the fish and the North Sea shrimp come straight from fishers in the surrounding harbours, whom the team knows personally. Recent listings have included Greetsiel plaice with bacon and fried potatoes, and a turbot roulade with lobster sauce from a cutter in Accumersiel.
Three master chefs run the kitchen, and regional meat appears alongside the fish. Guests have also ordered the dry-aged Frisian pork chop with house sauerkraut and a rare-roasted beef rump with béarnaise. For dessert, the crème brûlée uses Bourbon vanilla, and the house egg liqueur turns up in ice cream and in a liquid dessert.
The Schlemmer Atlas awarded the restaurant 2,5 Kochlöffel in 2026, noting its position directly on the dike behind brick walls. Reviewers describe a cosy, rustic room that suits a long dinner.
