The story
VINOTHEK by Geisel is a Mediterranean-inspired wine bar and kitchen at Schützenstraße 11 in Munich, and the Michelin Guide listed it as Recommended in 2026. The bar sits between Karlsplatz (Stachus) and the Hauptbahnhof, and it belongs to the Hotel Excelsior.
Benedikt Arps has led the kitchen since June 2024. He trained at the Ambassador Hotel & Spa in St. Peter-Ording and at the AROSA Resort in Nordfriesland, and he most recently cooked as head chef at Söl'ring Hof, a two-star Michelin restaurant. The kitchen combines regional Mediterranean lightness with seasonal produce from local suppliers, with a fresh herbal note running through the dishes.
House-made pasta and freshly sliced San Daniele ham are the specialties to order. The weekday lunch menu, served from 12:00 to 14:30, pairs modern dishes with open wines by the glass. The wine list runs to up to 20 grape varieties by the glass and a large selection of bottles from Europe and beyond.
The dining room has a cross-vaulted ceiling and colorful frescoes, which the Schlemmer Atlas rates at 2.5 Kochlöffel for 2026. A kitchen table in the show kitchen seats groups of 10 to 16 guests for a four-course menu. The restaurant closes from 16 March to 6 April 2026 while a new operator takes over.
