The story
sansaro is a Japanese restaurant at Amalienpassage 89 in Munich, where sushi and sashimi sit beside a seasonal menu. The Guide Michelin listed it as Recommended in 2026, and the kitchen has been cooking Japanese food in the city since 2007.
Sushi and sashimi have been the restaurant's focus since 2006, prepared in the quality and style the house associates with Japan. Since 2021, the sushi can also be ordered for delivery or pickup. The team asks guests to reserve ahead, since the preparation takes time and the daily supply of sushi rice is limited.
Since 2024, sansaro has offered a "Reise nach Japan" menu of five to seven courses that changes with the seasons. The house recommends pairing it with sake, and Japanese whisky is also on the list. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded the restaurant 2.5 Kochlöffel in 2026 and described a seasonal cuisine in the kaiseki tradition. Guests who want the seasonal menu should book it directly so the kitchen can prepare.
The dining room is simple, with clean lines and warm wood. A long communal table suits larger groups, and tatami places let guests sit on rice straw mats without shoes. In summer, the terraces sit among Japanese maples in the middle of the Amalienpassage, away from traffic noise. A small artbox out front shows work from rotating artists.
