The story
Le Comptoir 17 is a Parisian-style bistro at Lameystraße 17 in Mannheim, where French bistro cooking drives the menu. Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 2,5 Kochlöffel for 2026, and Michelin lists it as Recommended that year.
Gregor Ruppenthal cooks in a classic style without showmanship. He founded the restaurant with Maia Valente, and it has been open since December 2014. Fish and shellfish come from Breton coastal fishing, supplied by a fish merchant in La Trinité sur Mer. The butter is churned by Jean Yves Bordier in Saint-Malo, and the bread is baked in house.
The menu includes beef tartare cut au couteau with béarnaise mayonnaise and house fries. Pan-seared prawns arrive with couscous and saffron mayonnaise, and a risotto pairs artichokes with grilled prawns. Heartier plates include lamb cutlet with ratatouille and olive jus, and beef cheek bourguignon with mushrooms, bacon and pommes dauphine. Desserts stay simple, with crème brûlée and marinated Palatinate strawberries served with yoghurt ice cream.
