The story
Café GUPI, at Römerstraße 1 in Weil am Rhein, serves contemporary, seasonal cooking in a former gardener's house and is a Michelin Guide recommendation for 2026.
Chef Christoph builds his menus around whatever products are available, so the card changes regularly. The cooking reflects the "Troispays" around it, with vineyards, orchards and the nearby Swiss and French borders all shaping the flavours. Guests choose between a three- or five-course menu. The Schlemmer Atlas gave the restaurant three Kochlöffel in 2026.
The list leans on local Gutedel and Pinot, with a few rarities from other regions. The team knows many of the growers personally, and the bottles come from producers who work by hand. A rotating selection is poured by the glass, and each dish comes with a wine suggestion.
The building sat on grounds once used as a summer seat by Basel industrial and patrician families, and some 1920s details survive. Downstairs there is a bar and a room for 12. Upstairs a second room seats 14, and a small library holds up to 6. In summer the terrace under the old trees adds 30 places. A private room takes up to 14 guests, and the bar welcomes walk-ins.
