The story
Michaelis, at Paul-Gruner-Straße 44 in Leipzig, runs a seasonal kitchen inside the hotel of the same name and appears in the Michelin Guide 2026 as a Recommended restaurant. It has been the flagship of the Michaelis group since 1997.
Florian Joppich leads the kitchen, working with Mirko Brückner and Patrick Schellenberger. Their dishes go out at lunch and at candlelight dinners. The house describes its cooking as natural, seasonal and regional, a line it says it has held since the beginning.
Schlemmer Atlas gave Michaelis 3 Kochlöffel in 2026. Its write-up points to Muscovy duck, buffalo fillet and a hearty snack for smaller appetites. Guests can order à la carte or choose one of several three-course menus. Vegetarian dishes are also offered.
Red dominates the dining room, which Schlemmer Atlas describes as stylish and urban, with a young team at work. The restaurant has a bar and a summer terrace. A private room is available for groups, and the building has wheelchair access.
