The story
Schockes Küche sits at Hauptstraße 21 in Birkweiler, a village near Landau in der Pfalz, and runs a French-rooted fine dining kitchen that holds one Michelin star (2026). The restaurant occupies a half-timbered house in the South Palatinate wine country.
The kitchen builds its menus on a French base with a strong focus on fish and shellfish. Der Feinschmecker (3, 2026) singles out a Normandy scallop served with Joselito ham and a turbot finished with bergamot and a creamy pine nut butter broth. A glazed veal cheek stands in as the meat course, and a run of amuse-bouches opens the meal.
The dining room has terracotta floors, stone walls and an old tiled stove, with a cozy courtyard that stretches the space outdoors. Schlemmer Atlas (3.5 spoons, 2026) describes a seven-course menu with goose liver, duck and French cheese. Lara Schocke chooses the wines from Palatinate and French producers, and the non-alcoholic pairing uses Geiger products.
