The story
Das garbo zum Löwen in Karlsruhe cooks French food at Hauptstraße 51 in Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen, and the restaurant holds one Michelin star for 2026. The French kitchen works with regional produce, and the menus move between a classic à la carte and a tasting format.
Marcel Kazda leads the kitchen, and the restaurant describes his cooking as anything from regional classics to creative fine dining. The team says it knows where its products come from. Plates focus on one main ingredient, arranged with a deliberate hand.
The evening menu runs seven courses, and the lunch version is shortened to three. The kitchen also offers a Baden and Alsatian selection, which brings the cooking closer to the regional French and German border. A Spanish tapas evening in February 2026 listed Jamón Bellota, Gazpacho Andaluz, Chipirones and Iberian pork for €99 per person.
The dining room is a charming inn with wood panelling in a nostalgic style. The wine list is extensive, with Champagne, German Sekt, Riesling from Baden to the Mosel, and bottles from Burgundy, Bordeaux and Alsace. A gin list sits alongside it. Dogs are not permitted, so guests can settle in without a four-legged companion.
