The story
Restaurant Pinus at Ziegelstraße 5 in Friedrichshafen is a vegetarian-focused sharing kitchen that earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026, a mark for good quality cooking at good value. The restaurant sits inside the Seegut Zeppelin estate on the Lake Constance shore, where the sharing format and the plant-led cooking are the point.
There is no fixed menu course by course. Guests order from the card, and dishes arrive as they are ready, so a table eats together but at its own pace. The kitchen groups dishes by flavour, from fresh and vegetarian to fruity and roasted. Meat plays a supporting role, and some dishes are vegan, though the kitchen deliberately skips meat substitutes.
Philipp Heid has been Küchendirektor since May 2024 and also curates the Speiserei im Maier in Fischbach, about 700 metres away. He trained at Hotel Traube Tonbach in Baiersbronn, then worked at Ophelia in Konstanz, Victor's Gourmetrestaurant Schloss Berg and PRISMA in Vitznau until early 2023. The Schlemmer Atlas awards the restaurant 2,5 Kochlöffel for 2026, noting its sustainable concept in a historic villa.
Pinus takes its name from the black pine in the garden, which frames the view from both the dining room and the terrace. Guests can sit in the ground-floor Villa Gminder or the Parksalon of Haus Helene, and the terrace runs from April to September. The drinks list centres on alcohol-free pairings, alongside wines from the Bodensee Big Five estates and naturally made wines from across Europe. Sweets on the card include an affogato and Madagascar vanilla desserts.
