The story
Enoteca, at Gerberau 21 in Freiburg im Breisgau, is a classic Italian restaurant with an attached wine shop, and Gault&Millau gave it 13.5 points in 2026. The kitchen has run in the old town for more than 40 years, and it still aims for simplicity: good products, handled with care.
The Italian kitchen works in the classic high-cuisine manner, built on strong ingredients. Der Feinschmecker tasted grilled lobster, raw-marinated halibut with mango and paprika salsa, and black agnolotti filled with salmon. A braised beef shoulder cooks slowly in Tuscan olive oil with root vegetables.
Guests can order à la carte or choose from three four-course menus, one of them vegetarian. A seven-course surprise menu can be ordered for the whole table. A set lunch menu is also offered.
The list holds more than 200 wines, mostly from Italy and Baden, with a selection of leading Palatinate estates. Fourteen grappas round out the bar. Inside, brown and beige tones and plenty of indirect light make the evenings feel cozy. In daytime, the small terrace catches the sun on an old-town lane.
