Basho-An is a Japanese restaurant at Merianstraße 10 in Freiburg im Breisgau, where the sushi and washoku kitchen earned a Michelin Recommended listing in 2026.

Washoku, sushi and the evening menu

Washoku, the traditional Japanese cooking that UNESCO lists as intangible cultural heritage, is the core of the kitchen. In the evening, a set Basho-An menu moves through a range of textures and preparations, and à la carte nigiri and rolls are also available. Guests who want to watch the work can book the seats opposite the sushi chef, one group of up to two people per evening.

A simply furnished room and takeaway

The Schlemmer Atlas awards the restaurant 2.5 Kochlöffel and describes an old-town room that is rather simply furnished. The lunch menu includes dishes such as warm teriyaki chicken. Vegetarian and gluten-free dishes are on the menu, and wagyu beef can be ordered in advance. The takeaway list covers bento, sushi platters for gatherings and a selection of Japanese drinks.
