The story
Teko by Lange Rodriguez is a fusion restaurant at Wegenerstraße 3 in Essen's Rüttenscheid district, where German and South American cooking meet on one menu. Der Feinschmecker awarded it a 3 rating for 2026, and the kitchen works through a five- to seven-course dinner built around that dual heritage.
Hans Robert Lange Rodriguez was born in Bolivia to a German father and a Bolivian mother, and he moved to Germany as a young man. His cooking pairs German precision with the heat and acidity of Latin American kitchens. The restaurant's name is the Guaraní word for culture, which is the thread running through the menu.
Razor clams arrive with pumpkin and a sharp note of ají panca, a red pepper from Peru. Majao, a Bolivian dish traditionally made from dried meat, rice and vegetables, appears here as a refined companion to the lamb. The menu is fixed, so vegetarian or vegan requests should be made when booking.
The dining room seats up to 25 guests and is finished in black steel and light oak, with a restrained, elegant feel. The wine list is international, with bottles from Jardín Oculto, a Bolivian estate grown in the Andes at 2,300 meters. The restaurant also hosts private dining and catering.
