The story
Müllers auf der Rü is a bistro at Rüttenscheider Straße 62 in Essen, with a French and seasonal kitchen and a place in the Michelin Guide as Recommended for 2026. It is the brasserie of TV cook Nelson Müller, who has run it since 2014.
Stephan Conze leads the kitchen as Küchenchef. The open kitchen sits at the center of the room, so guests can watch the cooks work. The Schlemmer Atlas gave the restaurant 2 Kochlöffel in 2026 and singles out Wiener Schnitzel, zander and beef tenderloin, served in a fine traditional style.
The everyday core is Bratkartoffeln, Backfisch, Käsespätzle and Currywurst. The seasonal card goes further: beef tartare with sourdough and Bergisch cheese, bouillabaisse with clams and samphire, and zander fried in bacon skin with creamy sauerkraut. Vegan diners can order a Hokkaido pumpkin kebab with oyster mushrooms and dates. For dessert there is Kaiserschmarrn with plum compote and yogurt ice cream, or a crème brûlée made with 70% Virunga chocolate.
The room is meant to feel like a market hall, lively and unfussy. A daytime bar with high tables handles quick lunches, while the restaurant proper offers classic table service. Evenings sometimes turn to music, such as the Blue Monday nights of soul food and soul music scheduled through 2026.
