The story
The Duchy serves contemporary French brasserie cooking at Königsallee 11 in Düsseldorf, inside the Breidenbacher Hof hotel (entrance on Heinrich-Heine-Allee 36). Schlemmer Atlas awarded it three Kochlöffel in 2026, and the Michelin Guide lists it as recommended for the same year.
Executive Chef Philipp Ferber leads the kitchen. His team cooks refined brasserie-style dishes with a nod to the region, under the banner of a fine European brasserie. Schlemmer Atlas singles out the roast beef and the fresh seafood as what guests come for.
The bar sits inside the restaurant and pours champagne alongside oysters and caviar. Finger-sized seafood and a handful of creative cocktails round out the offer. The menu also lists a plateau de fruits de mer for those who want to share.
Upholstered benches face floor-to-ceiling windows with a view over the old town. The wine list leans toward organically certified bottles, with sections for Germany, Austria, Burgundy and Bordeaux. By the glass, Taittinger and Dom Pérignon 2015 are among the sparkling pours. The name goes back to 1805, when Napoleon created the Grand Duchy of Berg with Düsseldorf as its capital.
