The story
Setzkasten, at Berliner Allee 52 in Düsseldorf, holds one Michelin star (2026) for its modern cuisine. The restaurant sits in the basement of the Zurheide gourmet market, and its kitchen is visible behind glass.
Chef Egor Hopp was born in Kazakhstan, and that heritage appears in dishes like salmon okroshka. Der Feinschmecker rates the restaurant 2.5 (2026) and notes how he pairs those flavors with luxury produce such as Carabineiro beef and Australian Wagyu. His international repertoire draws on the market upstairs.
Evenings offer a four-course menu at 99 € or a six-course menu at 149 €, and Friday and Saturday lunch has its own four-course format. A recent menu lists lobster with carrot, bisque and tamarind, then beef with parsnip, hay and celeriac stalks. Pandan leaf with dill, pear and Brazil nut follows. Guests can add vareniki with potato, smetana and Ossetra caviar for 34 € extra. Vegetarian and pescetarian menus are served with advance notice.
Light wood dominates the dining room, which feels calm next to the busy shopping floor above. The wine list is fairly priced. Against a corkage fee, guests can also choose from the market's full wine selection.
