The story
Jan Diekjobst Restaurant sits at Lange Straße 19 in Detmold, Germany, where a modern cuisine kitchen works inside the traditional Hotel Detmolder Hof. Der Feinschmecker gave the restaurant a rating of 3 for 2026, and the menu leans on seasonal produce from the surrounding region.
Jan Diekjobst is both operator and head chef. He trained in Detmold, then cooked in Hamburg, at Vila Joya in Portugal, and at Kevin Fehling's The Table before taking over the Detmolder Hof in 2019. The kitchen follows a nose-to-tail approach, using as much of each product as possible.
Recent guide descriptions name a dorade with kumquat, fennel and crème fraîche, and lobster served with potatoes and XO sauce. The main course draws on the region, with local venison, porcini, blackberries and game spices. The à la carte list also keeps a classic Wiener schnitzel with potato-cucumber salad. Desserts on the dinner menu include pecan with pear and chervil, and sourdough with plum and chestnut.
The dining room has a casual brasserie feel, with high ceilings, wooden parquet and dark tables. An open kitchen at the Chef's Table lets guests watch plates leave the pass. The wine list runs to 350 bottles, and 50 of them are available by the glass.
