The story
Rehbergers im Schloss Hohenstein is a seasonal kitchen in Coburg, based at Hohenstein 1 in Ahorn, and it holds three Kochlöffel in the 2026 Schlemmer Atlas.
The menu moves with the rhythm of the year. Some dishes stay on the card for a long stretch, others run only for a day, and the kitchen sometimes changes the card twice in one week. The online menu is an example of the current style, and the daily card is available by email on request.
The owners, Alexandra and Andreas Rehberger, cook with regional producers, winemakers and craftspeople. Their approach favours good sauces, local butter, traditionally brewed beer and a glass of good wine, with an Austrian touch in places.
Seventeen rooms of different categories sit within the 14th-century castle near Coburg, along with event rooms, a park and a neighbouring chapel. The Michelin Guide lists the house as Recommended for 2026.
Oskars Schlossstube, named after the late owner Oskar Hacker, is open for reading and coffee in the afternoon. It serves freshly brewed coffee and Austrian Mehlspeisen, and in the evening guests can order a beer or a glass of wine before or after dinner.
