The story
Schapers, a Mediterranean and classic cuisine restaurant at Heese 6-7 in Celle, Germany, earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026. The restaurant sits inside a small family-run hotel, a few minutes' walk from the train station.
The restaurant describes its cooking as seasonal, with regional and Mediterranean accents. The menu changes with the year: a Christmas menu in 2025 offered rosé-roasted duck breast, pike-perch on fresh spinach, and a ricotta-spinach ravioli in beurre blanc. Four-course menus are offered alongside the à la carte selection.
The Schlemmer Atlas, which awarded the restaurant 2 Kochlöffel for 2026, singles out homemade ravioli, scallops, and quail breasts. Quail arrives with a smoked balsamic sauce and Belugalinsen lentils. Veal fillet medallions are wrapped in chard with a Riesling and chive sauce. For vegetarians, potato-ricotta gnocchi is tossed in butter and finished with basil sauce and a Mediterranean braised vegetable.
The dining room is described as stylish yet cosy. The wine list pours by the glass in 0.1 and 0.2 liter measures, with German Riesling, Grauburgunder, and Spätburgunder among the open bottles. Dessert keeps things classic: crème brûlée with vanilla ice cream, and a lemon and quark terrine served with marinated cherries and chocolate ice cream. The hotel has 15 rooms in varied sizes, and the old town of Celle is about 15 minutes away on foot.
