The story
halbedel's Gasthaus at Rheinallee 47 in Bonn is a modern French restaurant that earned one Michelin star in 2026 for its high quality cooking. The restaurant sits in an Art Nouveau villa near the Rhine, where the French kitchen meets a relaxed, lived-in dining room.
Rainer Maria Halbedel builds his menu on classic French technique and adds contemporary touches. A lemongrass broth comes with the Angus beef, and sweet-and-sour passion fruit accompanies the red mullet. Many ingredients arrive from his private kitchen garden in the Eifel region.
The venison loin with beetroot and blackcurrant sauce has been a fixture for years. The dessert of Boskop apples with cream and salted caramel is still served, now finished with a hint of balsamic vinegar. Every dish on the menu is also available à la carte.
Since 1987 the restaurant has occupied the villa, with designer porcelain and handwritten menus. Irmgard Halbedel shapes the interior in greys and slate tones. The wine list leans toward Germany and France, with a broad range of vintages at prices that suit a regular visit. A smoking lounge is on the first floor.
