The story
Carl & Sophie Spree Restaurant at Alt-Moabit 99 in Berlin cooks regional, creative German food on the river, and the Schlemmer Atlas rated it 2.5 Kochlöffel in 2026. The guide describes a place as casual as it is cozy, down-to-earth and family-like.
Chef Martin Höse leads the team, which is encouraged to bring its own ideas to the menu. Vegetable dishes sit alongside influences from other countries' cuisines, reworked as contemporary classics. Meat comes from Gutshof Weng in Amerang, Bavaria, an organic-certified farm (since 2012) that raises Murnau-Werdenfelser cattle and Bunte Bentheimer pigs. The restaurant says it is one of two in Germany serving this meat. Milk-based dishes close the menu, a nod to dairy founder Carl Bolle.
The restaurant stands on the grounds of the former Bolle dairy, among listed clinker-brick buildings. Panorama windows and generous terraces face the Spree. The bar pours cocktails and wines from local suppliers, plus C&S Gin 1832, developed with Deutsche Spirituosen Manufaktur. On weekdays the lunch menu brings three courses to the table in a single serving.
