The story
Berta, at Stresemannstraße 99 in Berlin, is an Israeli and Mediterranean restaurant that earned a Michelin Recommended mention for 2026. The kitchen draws on the cooking of grandmothers, rooted in Eastern European traditions and reaching toward the ttastes of Jerusalem.
Chef Assaf Granit writes the menu, and the restaurant takes its name from his grandmother Berta. The Schlemmer Atlas gave Berta 2 Kochlöffel for 2026, praising its Oriental-Mediterranean flavors and its view into the open kitchen. The room sits near Potsdamer Platz.
The March 2026 menu moves between small plates and mains. Kubaneh comes with beetroot and horseradish aïoli, while fattoush pairs cured tomatoes and feta with sumac and za'atar. Polenta machneyuda arrives with mushroom, asparagus and parmesan under truffle oil. The slow-cooked lamb shoulder, Ta-Le, follows a Jerusalem recipe from Chef Assaf's grandmother. For dessert, the Jerusalem cheesecake comes with a za'atar meringue and sumac coulis.
Dinner service runs in the evening, and the atmosphere changes as the night goes on. Lights dim and the music rises, and the meal turns into a celebration. The room has air conditioning and a private room for groups, and the team also hosts private dinners.
