The story
Landhaus Gräfenthal in Bayreuth, at Obergräfenthal 7 in Bindlach, serves classic cuisine and holds a 2026 Michelin Recommended mention. The house has stayed in the Lauterbach family for four generations, and the menu carries that long line of cooking forward.
Peter Lauterbach runs the house and sets the culinary tone in the kitchen. He worked in the Schwarzwaldstube and in restaurants in Bayrischzell, St. Moritz, Zürich, Ascona and Australia before returning to Gräfenthal. His kitchen motto, "Alles muss hinterfragt werden" (everything must be questioned), shows in dishes that pair family recipes with French and Asian influences.
The kitchen sources beef, pork, fish and game from producers within a short distance, and the menu changes with the season. Dishes include Bachforelle with horseradish vinaigrette and herb bread chips, Zander from the IJsselmeer with carrot, lime and peanut, and wild hare from local forests with black truffle. On Sundays the kitchen serves roast with green and semolina dumplings. The cellar lists more than 400 wine positions.
